Job Overview

This position is part of Vehicle Group New Spaces Innovation and works specifically for growth of Battery Systems for Electric Vehicle (EV) applications. The incumbent shall drive strong engineering acumen in the team for robust technology and product development that is in tune with the market and customer requirements. This role works very closely with the theme leader, chief engineer and cross functional team to assess the market and customer requirements from EV battery manufacturers, integrators and OEM customers. The incumbent shall be resourceful in drawing up technology trends of EV batteries at a system level to create a roadmap for targeted business opportunities in the areas of interconnects and safe venting of gases with technology differentiation, unique value propositions and at compelling cost for end customers. The candidate shall be candid and driven in attracting right talent, coaching & developing for performance excellence, continuous feedback and decisive evaluation in building a solid team for success of Battery Systems team globally.

Job Responsibilities

Define the scope of work for the team in tune with global theme’s strategy in two domains: a) Interconnects and b) Vent valves for the HV Battery space
Develop a framework for engineering development of the product differentiation from the current concepts in line with the benchmarking / regulatory inputs
Work with Chief engineer, product director and product strategy manager to enhance technology decisions and product roadmaps in line with engineering & manufacturing
Create structured engineering progression plan for pursuits feasibility verification from technical and manufacturing specifications
Set-up a robust technical review plan in line with global cadence to drive a detailed engineering, cost effective manufacturing, material innovations and trends in batteries
Create a well-structured BOM management approach in relation to battery type, component type, material choice, manufacturing process
Conduct Gate 0 in close collaboration with PM & PSM for the Battery Systems for matured opportunities through Customer 360 process
Coach, mentor team members for expertise in software engineering, their individual development in line with EATON leadership model and career avenues
Maintain high standards of compliance to organizational process and measures in terms of operations, continuous improvement and capability enhancements
Identify & create a plan for external collaboration with universities on battery research, regulatory organizations and integrators for upfront technology planning and execution

Qualifications

Education level required Masters in Mechanical / Electrical Engineering Years and area of experience required 7+ years in new technology / product development in EV or affiliated industry Technical knowledge Product design for automotive applications: Concept to detailed engineering to validation to launch

Design for manufacturability for high & low volume production

Knowledge of application requirements for EV components (HV insulation & safety)

Experience in xRL progression of new concept for successful commercialization Soft skills Excellent drive to learn and execute projects with cross functional team in an agile environment, embraces uncertainty and works through in creating a value for the business & customers
