ev.care is DIYguru's EV ownership and aftermarket venture. Most workshops replace a failed controller or BMS as a whole unit; we want to repair them properly at component level, which is cheaper for the owner and far better for the vehicle.
You will diagnose faults on motor controllers and battery management systems, trace them to board level, and carry out the repair — reading schematics, probing with a scope, reworking SMD components. CAN diagnostics is central to the job: most of what arrives will need to be understood through the bus before a single screw comes out.
There is a design element too. Where a repair is not viable or a part is unobtainable, you will design replacement boards and adapter hardware, so PCB design capability matters as much as repair skill.
This is a hands-on bench role at our Delhi facility, working alongside the service advisers and with full access to DIYguru's technical training.
What you will do
- Diagnose faults on EV motor controllers and battery management systems
- Perform CAN-based diagnostics to isolate faults before teardown
- Carry out board-level repair including SMD rework and component replacement
- Read and interpret schematics; trace faults through power and signal stages
- Design replacement PCBs and adapter hardware where repair is not viable
- Bench-test and validate repaired units before they go back on a vehicle
- Maintain repair records, failure analysis notes and a parts inventory
- Feed recurring failure patterns back to the training and content teams
What we are looking for
- Two or more years in electronics repair, hardware design or test engineering
- Working knowledge of the CAN protocol and CAN-based diagnostics
- PCB design capability — schematic capture and layout in KiCad, Altium, Eagle or similar
- Confident with board-level diagnosis and SMD rework
- Comfortable with an oscilloscope, multimeter, bench supply and electronic load
- Understanding of power electronics — MOSFETs, gate drivers, current sensing
- Willing to work onsite in Delhi
Nice to have
- Direct experience with EV motor controllers or BMS hardware
- Battery pack assembly or cell balancing experience
- Firmware or embedded C exposure
- High-voltage safety training
